This project serves as a sub-website for Hubble, a specialized Korean science fiction publisher. Hubble plays a significant role in advancing Korean sci-fi by actively publishing both domestic and international sci-fi novel.
In recent years, interest in sci-fi novels has surged in Korea, elevating their status in the publishing industry. The project aims to present Korean sci-fi literature, including its timeline, themes and related essays, through an approach that moves away from conventional website structures. The goal was to spark curiosity and encourage audiences to explore the world of Korean science fiction by offering a new way of experiencing its content.
Long Form Essays
The website content is divided into two main categories, text and imagery, which are also the fundamental components of a book. The text section features essays and thematic discussions in long form formats. To improve readability, key terms that require annotation are highlighted and accompanied by corresponding images and supplementary explanations that appear in a side panel as the user scrolls.
The world
This section highlights a common keyword found across multiple Korean sci-fi novels and examines how each book interprets the term differently. A consistent highlighting method is used to support comprehension and guide users through thematic variations.
Keywords
The highlight of the image category reverses the way readers usually approach books. Instead of encountering the cover first, users are introduced to key terms and can click on them if they want to see the book cover and a selected sentence. This structure encourages a more exploratory and curiosity driven engagement with the works.
Color Line
Another page within the image category, called Color Line, reinterprets a traditional literary timeline through the use of color. Colors are extracted from sci-fi book covers published from the 1900s to 2024 and arranged into a long horizontal band. When users hover over each color swatch, the corresponding book information becomes visible, providing a new way to navigate the history of the genre.
System
The index allows users to browse both the text and image categories as well as the entire archive of pages. The microsite is available in both English and Korean so that it can be accessed by a wider audience.

Booklet
A small booklet accompanies the microsite by examining selected novels in greater depth. It translates the website content into a printed medium and reintroduces the books, their covers and key passages.
Posters
The poster series further develops the Color Line concept by interpreting it in a different visual format. Additional information, such as page counts, is included to transform the concept into a more informative and research oriented piece.
