About

As a child, my goal was to read every book in my school library. The persistence that once led me through every book now fuels a sharp eye for detail, a sensitivity to nuance, and the resolve to turn ideas into reality. Through it all, I carry the same joy, always eager to create the next story.

LABF

Liveliness
Connection
Excitement

This project was developed for the 2024 Book Festival, an annual event in Los Angeles. Rather than relying on the conventional book shape, alternative approaches were explored, such as capturing dynamic images of a book in motion and tearing pages to create unique design elements. To reflect the festival’s inclusive and multi-generational audience, a vibrant color palette was incorporated, ensuring a welcoming and engaging atmosphere.

Form & Texture

I threw the book myself to capture its fleeting forms in mid-air, tore it into fragments, and experimented with stacking and layering it in various ways. I then brought these moments into the computer, traced the shapes, and developed them into visual elements for the identity system. I also scanned the book to recreate the tactile quality of paper. Through these processes, I aimed to add depth and authenticity to the visuals while conveying the festival’s energy and pure sense of joy.

Installation

I created an installation that introduces the participating artists and their works in a playful and engaging way. Designed to resemble book pages fanning outward, the piece draws viewers in and encourages them to focus more closely on the information. After constructing the paper-based installation, I used MadMapper to clip the video content and project it onto the structure. The following video briefly shows the process of creating the projection content as well as the final result.
